Inspire – High potential and gifted education

We are committed to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted students, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive at our school.

Our classroom practices support and extend high potential and gifted students through high expectations, quality teaching and inclusive learning environments. Teachers identify students’ learning needs using evidence-informed practices and ongoing assessment to challenge and extend students appropriately.

Learning pathways include enrichment, extension and, where appropriate, acceleration to meet differing degrees of potential along a continuum. Classroom programs are designed to stretch, challenge and inspire students across the intellectual, creative, physical and social-emotional domains.

Our supportive classroom environments promote a strong sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity, collaboration and student voice. Teachers actively engage in professional learning to support the diverse learning needs of all students, including high potential and gifted learners, ensuring teaching practices remain current, inclusive and responsive.

Our school recognises that every student is an individual, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore, develop and extend their strengths beyond the classroom.

We offer a wide range of whole-school programs that support student growth through targeted enrichment, extension and extra-curricular opportunities. High potential and gifted students are identified and supported through programs such as debating, public speaking, academic competitions, chess, coding and Lego League, Kitchen Garden and environmental programs.

Student leadership is actively fostered through opportunities including Student Representative Council, peer mentoring, buddy programs, Peer Support, Year 6 leadership roles and Kids Parliament. These programs support the development of confidence, communication skills, empathy and responsibility across the social-emotional domain.

Creative talents are celebrated and extended through dance groups, choir, band, instrumental and bucket drumming groups, school performances, art classes and visual arts showcases. Students are encouraged to pursue creativity, originality and self-expression.

Students also have access to a wide range of physical development opportunities, including PSSA sport, school sport programs, training squads, coaching sessions, major carnivals and zone representation pathways. Differentiated Physical Education programs support students to develop skills, teamwork and resilience.

Through initiatives such as the Kids Curriculum program, students experience ‘taster’ opportunities across all four HPGE domains, supporting teacher identification of potential while empowering student voice and choice.

Our students participate in a wide range of statewide programs and competitions that extend and enrich student potential across all domains.

Statewide and NSW Department of Education support is available for high potential and gifted students, ensuring access to quality programs, pathways and specialist opportunities. Students are supported to participate in local, state and national competitions and events, including academic, creative, sporting and leadership opportunities, to further explore and develop their talents.

Our school’s approach aligns with the High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy, which promotes engagement, challenge and high expectations for every student. The policy recognises that potential exists along a continuum and requires differentiated approaches, adjustments and interventions to achieve excellence.
